Round One, Baptism of Fire & Why We Showed Up Anyway

Round One, Baptism of Fire & Why We Showed Up Anyway

We missed last week's blog and honestly, we were a little busy living it. Here's the catch-up.

Mallory Park: Round One

The bank holiday weekend marked a huge milestone for Racing Rascals Round 1 at Mallory Park. And if we're being honest? It was a baptism of fire.

For Lando and Maddison, this was their first ever race meeting, on new bikes, at a proper circuit with proper race pace. Nothing quite prepares you for that not the practice sessions, not the YouTube videos, not even the paddock chat. You just have to go and do it

And it didn't go smoothly. Lando had an incident where, after going off track himself, he was collected by another rider whilst trying to exit — the kind of thing that shakes your confidence hard, especially when you're young and it's your first time out. Maddison found the race pace practice sessions a real step up faster, more intense, more pressure than anything she'd faced before.

By Friday evening, neither of them wanted to race on Saturday. And we completely understood that.

The Conversation That Mattered Most

We went home. We talked about it properly. We listened to them, we didn't push, and we went to bed with no pressure either way.

Saturday morning came, and guided by them their decision, their call we got up, loaded the bikes, and showed up.

That moment right there? That's the one we're most proud of. Not a lap time, not a result. The fact that two young kids faced something hard, sat with it overnight, and chose to get back on the bike anyway. That takes guts. That's character being built in real time.

On Track

They rode brilliantly. First race meeting, new bikes, learning a new circuit — they were working at the back of the pack, but the only way is up. That comes with seat time, with confidence, with laps. And they're already getting them.

A huge well done to all the other Rascals Race Team riders who had a fantastic weekend too — you know who you are, and we couldn't be prouder of every single one of you. 🙌

Back at It

As if a full race weekend wasn't enough, we were back out at the weekend putting more laps in working on seat time and rebuilding that confidence after a big first outing.

It was also brilliant to meet another member of the race team welcome to the fold, Alfie #128! 🏁 Great to have another Rascal out there, and a big shoutout to Niki Jordan and Ben Buttivant for making the trip.

The Bigger Picture

This sport asks a lot of kids. It asks a lot of families. The early mornings, the long drives, the kit, the nerves, the setbacks  none of it is easy.

But weekends like this one are exactly why we do it. The resilience, the community, the growth you can't put a price on any of it.

If you know, you know. 🤝

We'll see you on track. 🏁
